We are excited to announce that the 2022 Australian Political Studies Conference will be hosted at the Australian National University between 26-28 September 2022 (with Postgraduate Workshop on Sunday 25 September 2022).
The Conference is jointly hosted by the School of Politics & International Relations, the Crawford School of Public Policy, and the Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs. The conference will be an in-person event. The theme for APSA 2022 ‘Reimagining our Political Futures’ recognises the upheavals of contemporary politics including but not limited to navigating a post-COVID world. We invite paper proposals with an explicit focus on how actors navigate uncertainty in contemporary politics and the possible trajectories of our shared political future.

APSA Carer Support for Conference Attendance Funding Scheme
APSA is once again pleased to provide the APSA Carer Support for Conference Attendance Funding Scheme.

The Australian Political Studies Association (APSA) acknowledges that carer responsibilities have the potential to hinder academics from being able to take full advantage of the opportunities presented by academic conferences. The scheme provides financial support to APSA members for the additional caring responsibilities that arise from conference attendance with a limited number of grants worth up to $500 each. The potential uses of these awards include but are not limited to, short-term childcare or professional carers for elderly relatives.
Applications for 2022 round should be submitted (via email) to the APSA National Office at arts-ssps-apsa@unimelb.edu.au by 5pm on Monday 5 September 2022 (AEST).
Both successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified by email. Successful applicants will be reimbursed for the actual cost following the conference on submission of all relevant receipts via email to the APSA National Office at arts-ssps-apsa@unimelb.edu.au

Postgraduate Conference Paper Prize
APSA awards an annual prize for the best conference presentation (in the form of a written paper) by a postgraduate (or undergraduate) student.
The deadline for submissions is Friday 16 September 2022. Submissions require a written paper of at least 4000 words, and can be emailed to apsa2022@anu.edu.au
Nomination Guidelines
- The prize is awarded to the best paper submitted for refereeing prior to the conference by postgraduate students.
- Each stream coordinator will be invited to nominate the best postgraduate paper from within their stream, informed by referee comments where possible.
- The nominee must be a current financial member of APSA in the year of nomination.
Judging Process
- The decision will be made by a judging panel chaired by Associate Professor Jana von Stein. The panel will read and rank the nominated papers, applying the following criteria:
- degree of originality
- use of appropriate sources;
- coherence of argument; and
- sophistication of analysis
Award Details
- The winner will be invited to attend the Association’s annual conference dinner and receive a prize of $1000 and a certificate
- This Prize is funded by APSA
